Obituary

Billy Joe (Bill) Weiss, 49, of Brenham, and the husband of Kathleen (Kat) Weiss, passed away Monday June 3, 2013 following a tragic car accident. Visitation will be Thursday, June 6 from 5-7 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 7th at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Brenham with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Bill was born February 24, 1964 in Brenham to Edwin Jr. and Edna (Naumann) Weiss. He was baptized in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin and was confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville. He was later confirmed into the Catholic faith and remained a member Of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Bill was a 1982 graduate of Brenham High School, attended Blinn College, and was a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ’86, earning a BBA in Marketing. On February 13, 1988, he was married to Kathleen Goessler in St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Rev. Timothy Vaverek.

After graduation, Bill was employed by Joske’s and then Dillard’s as a buyer and later became a manager for 10 years, mostly in Austin. In 1997, Bill and Kat returned to Brenham to raise their family. Bill became a Media Buyer for Blue Bell Creameries, whom he had worked for during his high school and college years. In 2003, Bill was named the Blue Bell Corporate Media Relations Manager, and served as Chairman of their 100th anniversary celebration. In 2012, Bill was named Blue Bell’s Advertising/Public Relations Manager. He was dedicated to Blue Bell and valued his many friendships throughout the United States.

Bill was very involved in Community Service where he was a member of the Brenham Noon Lions Club (current president), Washington County A&M Club (past president), Texas A&M Association of Former Students, 12th Man Foundation, Hotel Ocupancy Tax Board, Maifest, and Putt 2 Cure MS. He was a past member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Board, Leadership Washington County, Christ Lutheran Day School Board, and past Committee Chair for Washington County Fair Talent Show. He also supported Brazos Valley Young Life, Brazos Valley Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and of course the Blue Bell Fun Run.

Bill’s life centered on his family - especially Kat, Erik and Rachel. He enjoyed hunting, sports – especially Aggie sports and tailgating with his friends, Jimmy Buffett concerts, visiting with family and friends, and fishing at Rockport. Bill was especially known for his great sense of humor, his warm personality and his always present smile.

His loving family includes: Kathleen Weiss, son, Erik Weiss, daughter, Rachel Weiss; parents, Edwin, Jr and Edna Weiss; parents in law, Kenneth and Esther Goessler; siblings and their spouses, Bonnie and Mike Brinkmeyer,Debbie and Ken Von Gonten, Rick and Leslie Weiss, Lois and Wayne Wilhelm, Lori Benn; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many more members of his family and his many good friends.

Preceding him in death was a nephew, Clinton Wayne Wilhelm.

Pallbearers will be David Sommerfeld, Mike Schroeder, Scott Ehlert, Albert Martin, Jeff Sommers, David Kirts, David Cone and Tim Halloran. Honorary pallbearers will be Employees of Blue Bell Creameries and members of Brenham Noon Lions Club.

Memorials may be given to the Erik and Rachel Weiss Education Fund at the Bank of Brenham.
