Gertrude Blackman

Gertrude Blackman, 88, of Brenham and formerly of the Shelby community passed away Friday, February 19, 2010 in St. Joseph Regional Health Center. 
 
Gertrude was born September 19, 1921 in Victoria, TX to parents Rev. John Carl and Lydia (Wagner) Pfenninger. On October 30, 1921 she was baptized in Victoria and confirmed July 7, 1935 in Harlingen. On November 20, 1943, she was united in marriage to James A. Blackman by Rev. Nathaniel Kern. Gertrude was a 1943 Jeff Davis Hospital Nursing School graduate and where she was employed as a registered nurse. 
 
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, sisters Hanna Grote and Elizabeth Dierksen and grandson Keith Bartels. 
 
She is survived by loving family: children Barbara and Royce Bartels of Shelby, Robert and Irene Blackman of Hockley, Betty and Milton Moore of Marlin; grandchildren Erika Guerrero, R. J. Blackman, Michael Blackman, David Sudderth, Jeffery Sudderth, Becky Seibert, David Moore; 15 great-grandchildren. 
 
Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 21st in Brenham Memorial Chapel. 
 
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 22nd in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Pastor Linda Mosley will officiate. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. 
 
Pallbearers will be: R. J. Blackman, Michael Blackman, David Moore, David Sudderth, Robert Grote and Will Deirksen . Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Guerrero and John Deirksen.
